Exhibition: Blossoming Pixels and Nesting Instant

  • FLUX Media Gallery 1524 Pandora Avenue Victoria, BC, V8R 1A8 Canada (map)

Open Tuesday to Friday, noon to 5 pm

This exhibition features media art works by two groups of artists from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, and is part of a year long project called Physical Intersections Digital Collaborations (PIDC), presented in collaboration with Xchanges and the Victoria Arts Council.

PIDC brings together multi-disciplinary artists to create works which merge the physical with the digital, creating new possibilities for audience engagement and collaborative practice. This exhibition is the second of three presented as a part of this project.

Blossoming Pixels is a collaborative exhibition by Evan Locke, Ebony Rose, Amber Downie-Back and Melissa Flagg.

This process inspired work uses a web interface that invites viewers to navigate through the artists’ collaboration with AI and each other. Imagery and content sourced from the human body, painting, photography and dance are used. These experiments probe into what kind of emergent forms arise in these cross pollinations.

Nesting Instant brings together the work of Lee Ingram, Owen Fairbairn, Minah Lee, and Wryly Andherson and Jane Chan (Art Action Earwig).

"Using scavenged pieces we created a nest of spoken word sound works to hold feelings of playfulness, isolation and climate disquiet. Desiring to connect to nonhuman natures we imagine that we’re birds and channel the chatter and choruses of shared spaces around us. It is a tribute to birds, even if what is reflected is still our own human nature."
