Participants will learn how to paint directly on 16 mm film, as well as modify and alter existing 16 mm film imagery. At the end of the workshop we will project and transfer the final films to video. This workshop will be led by experimental filmmakers and RAW STOCK members Peter Sandmark and Trace Nelson.

Experimental filmmaker Dave Johnson, a member of the RAW STOCK film collective, will teach how to use a 16 mm Bolex camera, and do light meter readings for exposing B&W film. Then participants will shoot and hand process 16 mm negative film, and project the final films!

The Loop Gallery will include projections of 8 mm, S-8 and 16 mm film, some original work by RAW STOCK members, as well as found footage.

This exhibition features media art works by two groups of artists from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, and is part of a year long project called Physical Intersections Digital Collaborations (PIDC), presented in collaboration with Xchanges and the Victoria Arts Council.

A poetic, flowing Heart dances with ease day and night. A busy, curious Mind sets off on a journey to learn to dance as rhythmically and as elegantly as Heart. But the more desperate he becomes, the harder it gets. Maybe Mind will never encapsulate Heart’s lightness and innate delight. Or maybe music will show Mind the ways of the Heart.

Revealing Presence is an Augmented Reality project taking place on the unceded lands of the Lekwungen speaking peoples, now called Victoria BC. The project aims to make visible the stories and histories of peoples and events from the past, which continue to affect our relationships to the land and to each other. Five artists – Kemi Craig, Lindsay Delaronde, Colton Hash, Eli Hirtle and France Trepanier – have created works at specific locations, revealing the stories and unheard voices of these places.

Over 4 hours, participants will learn the fundamentals of programming microcontrollers and LEDs in a hands-on workshop using the popular Arduino microcontroller.

Over this 4 hour class, we’ll dive into buttons, dials, inputs and outputs, prototyping, multimeters, microcontrollers, and essential electronic components to demystify the basics of interactive electronics-based art.
