Artist's Statement by Richard Raxlen

"I make experimental films– a form of artists’ filmmaking that, although it’s been around for as long as there has been film, nonetheless is not well known. I have been attracted to film because of its inherent relation to life: light, time, motion, rhythm, illusion, reality.  My films consider how we perceive reality, layers of reality, how we experience time as it is passing and cyclical, how we grapple with the contradictions and complexities and the ephemerality of life. Just as images come out of and disappear into the emulsion of a film, so you and I appear on and disappear from the stage."
